What Is Yara

The Talent Exists.
The Path Didn't.
Now It Does.

Gabriel Geay is Tanzania's greatest marathon runner, national record holder at 2:03 and two time Olympian. He is the evidence that the talent exists. And he is the co-founder of Yara Academy.

"Tanzania has always had the talent. Now it needs a home."

Tanzania has always produced runners capable of competing with the best in the world. What it has never had is a system built to find them, develop them, and give them a real chance. Yara Academy is that system. Built in Madunga, Gabriel's home village, by the people who know this place best. Yara exists to find the talent this country already has, and raise the ceiling for every generation that follows.

The Build

Four Stages.
One Foundation.

Yara Academy is being built in stages. Each one builds on the last. All numbers are approximate targets.

Stage One — 2026

Clubhouse and English Education

~$30,000 + $300/mo

  • Clubhouse — changing rooms, bathrooms, training room, track ready to host competitions
  • Full time English teacher

Stage Two

Full Tartan Running Track

~$100,000

The same surface used at the Olympics. The same standard the world's best train on every day. When this is built, Madunga becomes the undisputed home of running in Tanzania. That is not just infrastructure. That is identity.

Stage Three

Dormitories for 50 Athletes

~$100,000

Full dormitories for up to 50 student athletes. Round the clock staff and full scholarship coverage for every athlete who earns their place here. So that where a child is born never determines what they are able to become.

Stage Four

Partner School Development

~$45,000

Upgrades and development at Umagi Secondary School, the partner school for Yara Academy athletes. Better facilities for our athletes and for the wider community. Education is not an add on. It is the foundation everything else is built on.

Total Fundraising Target Including three year programme costs of ~$75,000/year

Training Camp

Train Where
It Matters.

October 2026 Madunga, Tanzania Limited Spots

Yara Training Camp is Tanzania's first international running camp, operating in Madunga alongside the academy. Two camp formats are in development — Performance Camps for serious runners chasing times, and Adventure Camps for those who want to experience East Africa's greatest running environment.

The camp is operated as a separate commercial business by the same founders. This is intentional. It is how we sustain ourselves without taking a single dollar from the academy or its donors.

The inaugural camp runs in October 2026. Multiple camps are planned for 2027.

No commitment required. We will be in touch when details are confirmed.

Founder Circle

Be Part
Of The
Build.

The Founder Circle is a group of monthly supporters who fund the people and costs that make this project possible. Flights, administration, compliance, the day to day work of building something real from the ground up. None of that comes from your donations to the academy. The Founder Circle covers it, so every dollar donated to Yara goes directly to the kids.

Yara Academy is a project of Prospr Foundation, an Australian registered charity. All donations are tax deductible.
